After centuries of persecution, the witch is back.
The modern witch more closely ressembles the ancient archetype of the woman as healer and
feminine strength and rebellion than the patriarchal representations of witches according to Shakespeare and Walt Disney...
Today’s witch is far closer to the Earth-loving, science upholding, sage-burning, crystal wielding, sustainability-adhering, plant-loving kind.
In tune with her intuitions and respectful of the Earth’s cycles, the modern witch (men included) uses a deep knowledge of the elements, food medicine, naturopathy and herbalism in an effort to optimize the medicinal benefits of each ingredient in her creations.
Lisanna Wallance grew up in New York, attending Barnard College of Columbia University before moving to Paris to continue a career in fashion.
She was born with a hereditary condition called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, a connective tissue disorder that causes dysfunction throughout the body. Her symptoms worsened and she found herself bed-ridden, unable to work and could barely walk or eat at times because of complications from her chronic illnesses.
When western medications did not help her, she turned to her passion for cooking as a way to help heal herself with food and plant medicine. She spent years experimenting with her diet, studying plant medicinal systems from India to China and South America, and pursuing alternative therapies as a way to regain control over her life.
This cookbook is the culmination of the medicinal knowledge she acquired during her health journey. Returning to her childhood love of the magical, becoming a « witch » and using nature to heal was a way to sublimate her suffering and to help others.
