Snail slime is potentially nature’s most magical skincare creations. It contains skin regenerating properties that helps keep your skin smooth and wrinkle free for longer than aging would normally permit. The reason is because snails must constantly regenerate as their soft tissued bodies slime across surfaces. Snail's don't age and the they can go over the surface of a razor blade without hurting themselves due to their incredible slime ducts.
It was discovered by accident when snail farmers in Chile noticed that the skin on their hands was noticeably softer, smoother and that cuts healed unusually fast.
I have used it for years already. I took a break after my first year of use and truly, no other crazy beauty experiment compared to the effects of snail slime. It's a staple in my routine, which includes hyalauronic acid serum, topped with vitamin E A and C oils and sealed with moisturiser.
How does snail slime benefits skin?
Snail slime is made up of a complex network of polymers that take neither solid or fluid form. Secreted through this slime is a substance called Helix Aspersa Muller, which works to quickly regenerate and heal the snail’s skin and shell as it glides over the ground. It’s also charged with skin regenerative and repairing compounds:
Glycolic Acid: Snail slime contains enough glycolic acid to remove dead skin cells (which is also essential for keeping sun damage at bay) and helps generate new skin cells which are formed using a stimulus called allantoin.
Allantoin: Stimulates the regeneration of skin by increasing water content within the cell and strengthening its structure. It also helps skin heal and is effective in treating irritations. Snail slime derivatives are being used in hospitals as treatment for burn victims to help heal and generate healthy skin tissue.
Collagen and Elastin: These structural proteins are what binds skin tissue. Collagen gives rigidity and elastin allows skin to stretch and return to its normal state. As you age, elastin and collagen production decreases which makes skin sag and wrinkle.
Proteins and Vitamins: Snail slime contains a perfect balance of molecules which are beneficial to the skin including Zinc, Calcium, Iron and Copper and proteins andantioxidants that work to regenerate skin cells, reduce inflammation and help the skin lock in moisture.
So go forth and put slug slime on your face and stay wrinkle-free and plump-skinned forever…. well, for the time being at least.
